Karakoram is an award-winning developmental innovation consultancy and venture incubator that applies entrepreneurial thinking, strategy, design, and engineering to create breakthrough solutions for the world's toughest humanitarian challenges.
We do this through a deep focus on empathy, optimism, and applying creativity to complement analytical reasoning. This focus enables us to work through ambiguity with confidence—designing and promoting new products, services, experiences, and new ventures that solve people's unmet needs. We partner closely with our NGO and governmental partners to make a future inclusive of people, planet and profit. Karakoram is the proud recipient of the 2020 UNDP 'Global Innovator Award' and aspires to reimagine and drive a paradigm shift for the future of private consultancy / intergovernmental humanitarian partnerships, using the current relationship between NASA and its private sector partners as a template for getting things done.
Founding impact ventures that scale.
In 2020, UNDP Innovation organized the world's first private venture competition initiative to create for-profit solutions to agriculture, aquaculture, and agriculture challenges in Asia, Africa, and Latin America . This competition invited worldwide startups to pitch for catalytic pre-seed funding on 13 'Grand Innovation Challenges' from 13 member countries. The UNDP Uzbekistan Country Office selected Karakoram as the winner of the Venture Competition for our Precision Livestock Farming concept, Pastoral. The UNDP consequently offered our company Catalytic Grant Pre-Seed funding to initiate our venture build, focusing on identifying and verifying customer pain, measuring willingness to pay, and conducting early concept and technology tests in Uzbekistan over the summer of 2021. Pastoral graduated from Karakoram's incubator program in December 2021.
